Simpson for Seniors Registration 

 

Interactive Lifelong Learning for Adults of Any Age!

Simpson University provides an affordable and academically challenging learning environment framed in a Christian worldview. Simpson University for Seniors offers exciting learning opportunities at our Redding campus for adults of any age.

Our unique, month-long courses are not-for-credit, open to the public, and meet three times a week for a total of 10 one-hour instructional sessions. Presented by current or retired university professionals in their field of expertise, these courses are designed to enhance your joy of learning. They are held in a classroom setting on Simpson's campus for an authentic university experience - but without homework, tests, or grades!

Classes will be held back to back from 10:20am - 11:20am and 11:30am - 12:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Grubbs Learning Center Room 102 on the Simpson University campus.

This course looks at the emergence of Islam as an Abrahamic faith in the Arabian Peninsula and its rapid expansion through the Mediterranean basin. It will examine Islamic theology and practice alongside a historical narrative detailing several of the powerful Islamic Kingdoms that would dominate much of the medieval-Mediterranean world, culminating in the emergence of the Ottoman Empire. This course focuses on Heaven. We look at both the intermediate Heaven that many of our loved ones presently enjoy and then especially the ultimate Heaven that all believers will one day inhabit. Since Randy Alcorn's tome Heaven feeds into the content of the course, we will follow his general outline: (1) A theology of Heaven, (2) Questions and answers about Heaven, and (3) Living in light of Heaven. The eight major Crusades against the Muslims that occurred in the 11th to 13th centuries. Covers the conquest of the Holy Land by Islam and subsequently by the Seljuks; religious conditions in Europe that paved the way for Urban II to successfully call for the first crusade; the account of that first crusade and the establishment of the Crusader States; and then a summary of each of the seven subsequent crusades.
